I am taking part in the South Carolina Policy Council’s initiative to encourage lawmakers to voluntarily disclose their sources of income.
The idea of “Project Conflict Watch” is based on the principle that citizens have a right to know who is paying their elected officials. The project, which began in 2013, persuaded a third of the General Assembly and four Constitutional Officers to disclose their income.
South Carolina remains the only state in the nation that requires its state elected officials to disclose virtually nothing about their private income. But citizens don’t have to wait for legislators to pass a disclosure law. We can urge them to disclose voluntarily, and that’s why I hope you’ll participate in this year’s Project Conflict Watch.
Please fill out the form here (https://www.scpolicycouncil.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/IncomeDisclosureForm2016.pdf) and e-mail it to me. The Policy Council is compiling all of the information on one easy-to-use web page, and any information you obtain will go there for public use. That web page is here: http://scpolicycouncil.org/project-conflict-watch-2016.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
