A Certified Athletic Trainer Must Be Used Throughout a High School Interscholastic Football Game

H.4437 requires high schools to use a certified athletic trainer throughout high school interscholastic football games. “Certified athletic trainer” is defined as a person certified as an athletic trainer by DHEC. The purpose is to assist with concussion evaluations.

H.4438 is very similar, requiring the use of certified athletic trainers for all intercollegiate games.

While using certified athletic trainers may be a wise practice, it is extremely unwise and an overreach of power for the General Assembly to micromanage local schools’ sports approaches and procedures.
