A Psychological Test Is a Prerequisite for Being Certified As a Law Enforcement Officer

S.958 requires law enforcement officer candidates to complete a psychological examination conducted by a licensed professional, and be pronounced psychologically suited to perform law enforcement-related duties.

Law enforcement is a tremendous responsibility, and one which holds great power and potential for both harm and good. Before allowing anyone to wield this power on behalf of the state, it is not an unreasonable requirement to ensure that officers have the mental and emotional stability to do so in a professional, responsible manner.
