H.3207 – Changing the Appointment of JMSC Members

H.3207 would reduce the size of the Judicial Merit Selection Commission (JMSC) from ten to eight members. It changes the appointment of members, allowing the Governor, who currently does not have appointment power, to appoint four. The bill places restrictions on who is eligible for appointment to the JMSC. Finally, it would require the commission to provide a list of all qualified candidates for judgeships to be submitted to the General Assembly for election, instead of the current three.
