S.195 would impose a toll along Interstate 95 where it crosses Lake Marion in either Orangeburg County or Clarendon County. All revenue generated from the toll would be used for maintenance, upgrades, and expansions of I-95. Like other roads in South Carolina issues with the condition of I-95 are due more to mismanagement of resources than insufficient funding. In any case I-95 like other major highways already receives a generous share of South Carolina’s road expenditures due to a flawed federal funding formula.
