S.110 – Legislative Delegations May Remove Governor’s Appointment Power Over Special Purpose Districts

S.110 would allow county legislative delegations to remove the Governor’s appointment power over special purpose or public service districts and give it to the county governing body. While this legislation is an attempt to establish some accountability for the numerous and notoriously unaccountable special purpose districts, it fails to deal with the real problem. True reform would be to eliminate special purpose districts altogether rather than giving legislative delegations power to arbitrarily usurp the power of the Governor.
