S.130 – Making County Election Board Chairmen Gubernatorial Appointments

S.130 would make the chairmen of county election boards gubernatorial appointments, rather than allowing the county election boards to elect their own chairmen. Under this bill, the county legislative delegation would recommend a chairman and the Governor would then make the appointment. County election boards, including their chairmen, should be appointed by and accountable to their respective county governing bodies, not the state. The lack of real accountability would be solved by increased local control, not less.
